cookie policy
Last updated: 17 May 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar local-storage technologies are, what we use on the penafortenergy.com website, and how you can manage them. It is published by Penafort Energy Nigeria Ltd. ("Penafort", "we", "us", or "our"). Read it alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
A "cookie" is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit. Cookies let the website remember things — like the choices you made, or whether you've signed in — so the next page or visit works for you.
Modern websites can also use related technologies such as browser local storage (a small storage area in your browser that web pages can read and write) and session storage. They serve the same kinds of purpose. We refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this policy.
2. Our approach
We are deliberately minimal with cookies. This website does not use advertising cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not sell any data. We use only the items below, and only for the purposes described.
3. What we use
a. Strictly necessary — Consent record (local storage)
- Name:
penafort_consent - Type: First-party, browser local storage
- Purpose: Remembers that you accepted the cookie-consent banner so we don't show it on every page.
- Duration: Until you clear your browser's site data.
- Set by: Penafort.
b. Functional — Google Reviews cache (local storage)
- Name:
penafort.googleReviews.v1 - Type: First-party, browser local storage
- Purpose: Caches the most recent public Google Reviews of our business so the testimonials section loads instantly and we don't burn our Google API quota. Contains no personal information about you.
- Duration: 24 hours, then automatically refreshed.
- Set by: Penafort.
c. Analytics — Plausible (cookieless)
- Provider: Plausible Insights OÜ (plausible.io)
- Type: Server-side, no cookies set on your device
- Purpose: Counts page views in aggregate so we can see which pages are popular. Does not identify you, does not follow you across other sites, and does not use any personal identifier.
- Set by: Plausible, on our behalf.
d. Third-party — Google Maps embed (only on the Contact page)
- Provider: Google LLC
- Type: Third-party, set by
google.comwhen the embedded map iframe loads - Purpose: The interactive Google Map showing our headquarters location uses standard Google services. Google may set its own cookies inside the embedded map iframe (e.g. NID, CONSENT) per Google's own policies. These cookies are NOT accessible to Penafort.
- More info: Google's Cookies & similar technologies page.
4. What we do NOT use
- Advertising or marketing cookies.
- Cross-site tracking pixels.
- Social-media "like-button" trackers (our social icons are simple links, not embedded widgets).
- Fingerprinting techniques.
- Session replay or screen-recording tools.
5. How to manage cookies
You have several options:
a. Decline the banner
When you first visit the website you see a cookie-consent banner. Clicking "Decline" hides the banner for that session and prevents the consent record from being written. The banner reappears on your next visit. Clicking "Accept" stores your consent so we don't ask again.
b. Clear our locally-stored data
You can remove any local-storage items we have set at any time from your browser's settings:
- Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all cookies and site data → search "penafortenergy.com" → Remove.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → search "penafortenergy.com" → Remove.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search "penafortenergy.com" → Remove.
c. Block cookies entirely
Most browsers let you block cookies from all sites or from specific sites in their privacy settings. Doing so will not break this Website — at most you will see the consent banner more often and the testimonials section will load slightly slower because the cache is unavailable.
d. Opt out of Google's cookies
For cookies set by the embedded Google Map, visit adssettings.google.com and Google's Cookies page for details on your options.
6. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Policy if we add or remove cookies, or if the law requires us to revise the disclosure. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was most recently changed. Material changes will be summarised at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
